Dr Zaks, Gluten Free, Sweet potato pie

As you may know I recently teamed up with DR ZAKS, an amazing company who supply high protein products. I have loved using their coconut oil in all my products. After posting a video on twitter about how to cook this sweet potato pie, I decided to write the recipe up for you too follow too!

Now the weather is getting much colder, I’m really fancying something extra yummy and homely. Growing up we all have favourite dinners and one of those for me was my Grandmas Sheppard’s pie. So I decided to make an healthy version, which is gluten free!


3 sweet potatoes, peeled
20g low fat cheese
20g DR ZAKS coconut oil
Grated Nutmeg
400g (before cooked) lean turkey mince
2 tsp of DR ZAKS coconut oil
1 onion
2 carrots
1/3 courgette
½ red pepper
1 tsp of garlic
1 tsp of chopped chillis
1 drizzle of fish sauce or 1 tsp of liquid chicken stock

For kids:
Add ½ can of Heinz tomatoes sauce once the turkey mince has cooked through. This will make the pie more kid friendly. Make sure to cook through so the sauce thickens otherwise it will be too runny!

Peel sweet potatoes and then boil or put in the microwave for 3-5 minutes – you will know once cooked as they will become soft. Mash the sweet potato, add the almond/soya milk and  low fat cream cheese and coconut oil

Put a pan on low heat, melt the DR ZAKS coconut oil and then add onions, chilli and garlic. Sautees until browned, then add the turkey and the remaining vegetables chopped. Once the turkey has cooked through add the fish sauce or chicken stock.

Put the filling into the bottom of a casserole dish followed by the sweet potato topping. Flatten with a fork and then grate nutmeg and sprinkle oregano over the top.
